Don't Blog About This!

by Crissy Herron, founder of IndieBizChicks.com

Unless you’ve been living on Mars for the last few years, you already know how popular blogs are. It almost seems like everyone has one – from the sixth grader down the street to the leading business CEOs.

When blogs first came on the scene they were pretty much kept to a personal level. Known as “web logs,” they were essentially online journals. Today, the term has been shortened to “blog” and they are now used for all kinds of purposes, including business.

When a business owner takes to the blogosphere, they’re ahead of the game. Blogs are a great way to market a business, communicate with customers, and build buzz.

Sounds good, right? But it isn’t always that easy. There are some things that a business blogger should just say “no” to.

The Importance of Balance Between Business, Family & Self for the Holidays

by Joyce Bone, Founder of Millionaire Mom

As a wife, mom of three boys and business woman I am here to destroy the myth of “balance” especially as it relates to us as women. Think of a pendulum. It’s the symbol of balance is it not? The two sides perfectly in alignment with each other. Let’s take a closer look at this image: it is balancing two items. We should be so lucky! I have 3 boys all involved in sports, a husband who wants his wife’s attention, a dog that is potty training challenged, volunteer duties at the school and church, a household to manage, a business to run, the need to stay physically fit, and oh yeah, the desire to have a moment to myself every once in a while. Can you relate? The pendulum is at a dead stop. It is not moving. Do you want to be at a stand-still? It is not realistic. Who wants to stay exactly the same day after day after day? You have two choices: grow or die.

If we can’t have balance then what do we do? I am so glad you asked!

If Traci Fenton had to do it all over again, would she? Without a doubt.

When I started my company, I was still in college and had just been introduced to the idea of democracy as more than just a government and politics, but a way of being in the world that allows each person to realize his or her full potential. I was a business student, so I wanted to explore how democracy could relate to the world of business. My first step was to start a non-profit organization to explore the idea of democracy in the workplace. Then, six years later in 2003, I launched my for-profit social enterprise, WorldBlu, Inc., which is dedicated to elevating the human spirit through organizational democracy. WorldBlu’s goal is to inspire and support the development of 20,000 democratic workplaces around the world by 2020.
